What Is EV Charger Load Management?

EV charger load management is a way to control when and how much power an electric vehicle charger can use based on the electrical demand already being used by the home.

Instead of allowing the EV charger and other large electrical loads to all draw maximum power at the same time, a load management system helps keep the total electrical demand within the available capacity of the home's service.

This can be especially useful in homes where there may not be enough available electrical capacity to simply add a Level 2 charger directly. Depending on the home's electrical setup, load management may provide another option without automatically upgrading the entire service.

IMPORTANT A Load Management System Does Not Increase the Size of Your Electrical Service.

It manages the EV charging demand around the capacity that is already available in the home.

Can You Install an EV Charger With a 100 Amp Panel?

Potentially, yes. Having a 100 Amp electrical service does not automatically mean you need to upgrade your home to 200 Amps before installing an EV charger.

The right answer depends on the electrical demand of the home, the existing panel, the charger requirements and how much capacity is available for the new EV charging load.
