⚡ ELECTRICAL CAPACITY CHECK

Can Your Electrical Panel Handle a Tesla Charger?

Before installing a Tesla Wall Connector, we look at your home's electrical service, existing loads and the charging setup you want. A 100 amp service does not automatically mean you need a panel upgrade, but the available capacity needs to be assessed properly.

Depending on the home, the right solution may be a dedicated EV circuit, load management system or an upgrade to a larger electrical service.

⚡ BUILD THE RIGHT HOME CHARGING SETUP

Tesla Home Charging Options in Mississauga

There isn't one charging setup that makes sense for every home. The right installation depends on your vehicle, Tesla Wall Connector, available electrical capacity, wire route and how quickly you want to charge at home.

01

Standard Home Charging Setup

HOME

A dedicated EV circuit and professionally installed Wall Connector can provide a convenient everyday charging setup for many homes. We determine the appropriate electrical configuration based on your property and equipment.

02

Higher-Capacity Charging

FASTER

Homes with sufficient electrical capacity may be able to support a higher-output charging configuration. We assess the panel, electrical service and installation requirements before recommending the circuit size and charging setup.

03

Load-Managed EV Charging

CAPACITY

If your home doesn't have enough available electrical capacity, load management may allow EV charging without immediately upgrading the entire electrical service.

Not Enough Electrical Capacity? Load Management May Help

A Tesla charger does not always mean you need to immediately upgrade your entire electrical service. Depending on your home's existing electrical demand, an EV load-management system may help control charging so your home stays within its available capacity.

THE PROBLEM
!

Limited Panel Capacity

Your home may already have larger electrical loads such as an electric stove, dryer, air conditioning or other equipment. Adding EV charging can increase the total electrical demand.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

EV Load Management

A compatible load-management solution can monitor or control EV charging based on the home's electrical demand, helping keep the installation within the available service capacity.

Every Home Still Needs to Be Assessed

Load management is not the right solution for every property. We look at your electrical service, existing loads, charger setup and installation requirements before recommending whether load management or a service upgrade makes more sense.

⚡ UNDERSTANDING YOUR INSTALLATION PRICE

How Much Does Tesla Charger Installation Cost in Mississauga?

Tesla charger installation cost can vary from home to home. The biggest factors are usually the distance from your electrical panel, the wiring route, available electrical capacity and whether additional equipment or electrical upgrades are required.

YOUR INSTALLATION What Affects the Cost?
01

Distance From the Electrical Panel

A charger located close to the panel generally requires less wiring and labour than an installation on the opposite side of the home or garage.

02

Wiring Route & Installation Difficulty

Finished ceilings, exterior routing, conduit, multiple levels and difficult access can change the amount of labour and material required.

03

Electrical Panel Capacity

We review the electrical service and existing loads to determine whether the home can support the proposed charging setup.

04

Load Management or Service Upgrades

If additional electrical capacity is required, the project may involve an EV load-management solution or an electrical service upgrade.

+
05

Charger Location

Garage and outdoor installations can have different wiring, mounting and electrical requirements depending on the property.

WHY WE DON'T GIVE ONE UNIVERSAL PRICE Two homes can need completely different electrical work.

A short charger run beside an electrical panel is very different from a long run through a finished home or an installation that requires additional electrical capacity.

Tesla Charger Installation FAQs

Questions about installing a Tesla Wall Connector at home? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from homeowners in Mississauga and the GTA.

JAC ELECTRIC HOME CHARGING KNOWLEDGE BASE
SYSTEM READY
01

Can I install a Tesla Wall Connector on a 100 amp service?

Potentially. Having a 100 amp electrical service does not automatically mean you need to upgrade to 200 amps. The available capacity depends on the home's existing electrical loads and the proposed EV charging setup. We can assess the electrical system and determine whether a dedicated circuit, load-management solution or service upgrade is appropriate.

02

Do I need a 200 amp panel for a Tesla charger?

Not necessarily. Some homes with 100 amp service may be able to accommodate EV charging depending on their existing electrical demand. Other homes may benefit from load management or an electrical service upgrade. The correct solution should be based on an assessment of the home's electrical capacity rather than panel size alone.

Learn About Panel Upgrades →
03

How long does a Tesla charger installation take?

Installation time depends on the property. Factors such as the distance between the electrical panel and charger, the wiring route, accessibility and whether additional electrical work is required can all affect the installation. Once we understand your setup, we can give you a better idea of what the project involves.

04

Can a Tesla Wall Connector be installed outside?

Outdoor installation may be possible when the equipment and electrical installation are suitable for the location. We can assess the proposed charger location, wiring route and mounting requirements when planning the installation.

05

Do I need an ESA inspection for my EV charger installation?

Electrical work in Ontario may require notification to the Electrical Safety Authority depending on the work being performed. Where applicable, JAC Electric can coordinate the required ESA notification and inspection for the EV charger installation.

06

How much does Tesla charger installation cost in Mississauga?

The cost depends on the electrical setup and the work required. Important factors include the distance from the electrical panel, wiring route, charger location, available panel capacity and whether load management or an electrical upgrade is required.
